Hey, hey, it’s hump day! Thankfully my week is going pretty quickly because this girl is already counting down to the weekend. Anyone else?
Today I thought I’d get back into the What I Ate Wednesday action, especially after such an extravagant weekend filled with too much booze and fried foods. I think getting right back on track after too much indulging is really important, so here’s how I did it.
Thanks to Jenn for hosting the linkup! (Is she still hosting these by the way? I’ve been having trouble finding it…)
Here’s a look at what I ate (and how I exercised) yesterday!
My Tuesday began with a 6:00 am CrossFit class with Anne at CrossFit Key Bridge. (Psst…read my full review of CrossFit Key Bridge here.) This was my third time at CrossFit Key Bridge, and after mentioning it to Anne a couple of weeks ago we decided to check it out together. We always have fun exploring new classes together, so this was a great way to start the day! This CrossFit box is also on ClassPass, so it was pretty much a win-win.
After completing a quick but challenging warm-up and a few mobility/technique exercises, it was time for our workout of the day (WOD): as many rounds of possible of 8 squat cleans, 200 meter run, 12 burpees, and 2 mins of rest. The timer was set for 26 minutes (if I’m remembering correctly…) and then we were off!
This was my first time doing cleans, and I had a really hard time getting my elbows to point up. Also my shoulders feel a little bruised today from trying to rest the bar on them. To the regular CrossFitters out there: is this normal?
The 200 meter run at this CrossFit box is especially nice because, as I mentioned before, the route they have you run is right along the canal in Georgetown. Running along the water first thing in the morning just makes me so happy!
Then it was burpee time, followed by two minutes of rest.
Mid-burpee! This is a cute angle, no? 😉
Overall I finished 4.5 rounds, and left feeling nice and sweaty. Phew!
As soon as I got home from CrossFit, I drank a glass of green juice made with cucumber, celery, lemon, ginger, baby kale (from Whole Foods), power greens (from Costco), green apples, and strawberries. It was delicious! (This is actually a recycled photo, but you get the idea.)
After showering and getting ready for the day I dug into a bowl of Kashi Go Lean Crunch with 1% milk, slivered almonds, and a banana. I’m still loving this combo!
For lunch I had the most delicious salad made with more power greens and baby kale, plus grilled chicken, feta cheese, sliced carrots, strawberries, slivered almonds and avocado. Plus a homemade dressing of olive oil, balsamic vinegar, mustard, salt and pepper. Yum!
I’ve found that strawberries just taste so delicious right now, and I’ve been enjoying them multiple times a day. Plus with the avocado and feta? So good!
For dinner I whipped out one of my favorite go-to recipes, peanut crusted orange salmon. This salmon is quickly marinaded in the juice of a fresh orange before it’s dredged in a mixture of roasted peanuts, panko bread crumbs, fresh parsley, garlic, and orange zest. It’s a great recipe! I served it on a bed of quinoa that was similarly flavored with parsley and orange zest, and it was pretty darn delicious if I do say so myself.
Even Fabio gobbled it up and he “hates” fish!
After dinner I snacked on a few more strawberries, because I can’t get enough right now. Yum!
And now before I hop off, I wanted to announce the winners of the Clean Bottle Giveaway I held last week! The winners are:
I emailed all of the winners this morning to let them know they were selected. Thank you to everyone who entered!
Question of the day: What’s your favorite summer produce?
