Hi friends! How was your week? I found it a lot harder to post this week – our evenings lately have been taken up with more and more wedding planning so it’s been hard for me to find extra time to sit at the computer to blog. I would imagine this trend will continue for the next few weeks until the wedding (eek!), so if I’m posting at off schedules or a little less frequently, you know why!
I’ll keep things short today since I’m also short on time. Here’s a look back at my workouts from this week!
Sat., April 29: On Saturday morning before all the bridal shower festivities, I got in a three-mile run with Jack. I actually hurt my lower back late last week during one of my workouts (I think I was rushing my deadlifts and not paying attention to form), and I was hoping if I ignored the pain and went for a shake-out run I might feel better. Ha! Can you see where this is going? Obviously, that’s not how life works and the run left me in a lot of pain, just in time for the party. Great. Luckily all the adrenalin and excitement of the day distracted me from it a lot, but anytime I dropped something on the ground and had to bend over to pick it up, I was reminded of this dumb mistake.
Sun., April 30: Rest day! After being up way too late and doing way too much dancing the night before, my back was seriously painful. When Fabio and I got home from my dad’s house and started opening up our presents, I could barely bend over at all. At this point, I was Googling just about every back stretch there is and doing lots of foam rolling, but nothing seemed to help.
Mon., May 1: Although I really didn’t want to take another rest day on Monday, I knew I had a lot of other fitness activities coming up during the week and I needed my back to get better. Rest day it was.
Tues., May 2: On Tuesday morning, Fabio and I headed to a Hot Power Fusion class at CorePower Yoga. This hot yoga class is a good one for stretching out, so I thought it might help my back. It seemed to, and I was feeling a lot better afterword. It was a great class too! There was lots of core work, which was challenging and painful (in a good way).
Wed., May 3: Wednesday was Get Fit Don’t Sit Day at my job, and I knew I had to participate in everything, back pain or no back pain, since I was in charge of all the events. I figured if things got too painful I could always make modifications or sit out during certain portions, though I really didn’t want to have to do that. Thankfully, I woke up on Wednesday pain-free!! Woohoo! All that resting was worth it.
I already told you about my workouts on Wednesday, but they included a Pure Barre class, a two-mile walk, and a bootcamp class at Sport & Helath. Phew! BTW, I’m the one wearing a green tank top and gray spotted leggings in all the pictures below, in case you are looking for me. 🙂
Thurs., May 4: On Thursday, I joined my favorite workout buddies Anne, Kathleen, and Fabio (two in one week! That must be a record for him…) for a bootcamp class at Definitions via ClassPass (<–affiliate link for $30 off!). It was a great class and included a whole bunch of circuit exercises like rowing, bent-over-rows, push-ups, wall balls, wall sits, ab work, jump squats, and more. I love these classes! The insturctors are the sweetest here, and always have the best old school music.
Fri., May 5: Rest day.
And that’s it for my week! I cannot even begin to tell you how happy I am that my back improved in time for all the events on Wednesday. This was an important reminder for me to rest and take it easy when I’m injured!
Question of the day: When was the last time you had an injury, and how long did it last?
