Hey friends! Once again, I feel like I don’t have a whole lot to share with you today. For some reason I’m feeling a little off this week – I think maybe because I started off the week with a cold and then finished up the week with long hours at work, so now I’m just really tired? Whatever it is, I’m just feeling sort of meh right now so I thought a random and fun blog survey would be a good topic for today. Please play along in the comments below!
1. Run/workout in the heat and humidity or freezing temps and snow?
I might be alone on this one, but freezing temps in the snow! There’s nothing worse for me than having to go out on a long training run in August when the humidity is at 100% and it’s 99 degrees out. Although I prefer heat and humidity to the cold in every other instance, running is not one of them.

2. Have washboard abs or flat abs?
This question is irrelevant to me since I will never have either one. Even when my abs are feeling strong, I know that abs are made in the kitchen and I’d have to really watch what I ate in order to get them to look good from the outside. I love food too much — hence the name of this blog — so that will likely never be me. 🙂
3. Dr. Oz or The Doctors?
I’ve never seen The Doctors and I don’t love the controversy surrounding Dr. Oz (a lot of times he talks about “miracle” supplements that don’t have any science backing them up) so I think I’m going to go with neither on this one. How about my PCP instead? Or WebMD? Haha!
4. Cardio or strength?
Both are so important! I believe a balance of the two is best for overall fitness, but there’s a lot of research these days that’s showing strength is better for keeping your metabolism up and burning calories long after your workout is over.
5. Cravings: Protein or carbs?
Carbs, always. I love ’em! However as much as I love carbs, I know I gain weight when I eat too many so I try to limit them somewhat. Instead, I try to incorporate protein in every meal and snack to help keep me full longer. Today, for example, I ate a Reese’s peanut butter cup pumpkin (leftover from Halloween) because I convinced myself there was enough protein in the peanut butter to make it a viable choice. 😉 Haha!
6. Jillian Michaels or Bob Harper?
I love them both! I used to listen to Jillian’s podcast all the time (I totally forgot about it until just now — why did I stop listening?) and I have her workout DVDs, but I love Bob’s caring and empathetic nature. I think I choose Bob!
7. Frozen Yogurt or Ice Cream?
This might be weird, but when I get frozen yogurt I get the plain “yogurty” flavors (the ones that are a little sour like Greek yogurt), and I like to load up on the fruit toppings and then add a sprinkle of chocolate. For whatever reason, I like to keep froyo a little more healthy. Ice cream, however, is a totally different story. Give me all the peanut buttery and chocolatey toppings! This is why we never have ice cream in the house. Ha!
8. To train: Upper body or Lower body?
Training lower body is usually pretty easy for me — I’ve always had decently strong legs — so I like training my upper body!
9. Protein powder or food with protein?
I’ve never been one for protein powder, though sometimes I get curious about it and think about trying it out. I’m definitely more of a food with protein kind of girl.
10. Lunges or squats?
Squats I guess, though I feel like one is just as bad/good as the other…
11. Sweet or salty?
Sweet! I’ve always been a dessert girl.
Peanut butter stuffed brownies Catrina and Britt made me for my birthday this year. 🙂
12. Workout attire: cute or comfy?
This is a silly question since all workout gear is usually both. In fact, I’m wearing workout leggings right now as comfy/lounge clothes!
13. Body Pump or Heavy lifting?
Ooooh good question! I say heavy lifting, though I do love me some body pump every now and then!
14. Yoga or Pilates?
Yoga, though pilates was really helpful for me after my foot surgery since I could do so much of it from the floor.
15. Nike or Adidas?
Is Lululemon an option? 😉
16. Running on the treadmill or outdoors?
Outdoors, of course! It helps when you live in a cool city with so many running trails/sights like we do.
*Crazy to think the Obamas won’t be living there anymore…*
17. Whole Foods or Trader Joe’s?
Hmmm I like both for different purposes! When we just need to buy some produce we will usually go to Whole Foods because we know they will have everything we need and it will be really fresh. TJs has some cool products and good prices, but it’s a little harder to check everything off my list (one time I needed marshmallows for an Easter recipe I was making and I was SOL at TJs). I guess I’ll go with Whole Foods.
18. Summer or Winter Olympics?
Summer! I love watching gymnastics.
20. Steamed veggies or roasted veggies?
Roasted! Does anybody ever answer steamed for this?
Phew – that was fun! Now it’s your turn; play along in the comments!
