Hello there! Happy Monday friends. I hope you all had a great weekend! For my part I am pretty sad that it’s over and am cranky that I now have to face my first full work-week since before Christmas. Ugh. Let’s hope the week passes by quickly, shall we?

Anyway, here’s a look at what I was up to this weekend.

Friday Night

Friday evening after work I headed over to my friend Megan’s apartment to meet her new puppy, Tully!

Isn’t he just the cutest little thing you’ve ever seen? Tully is a 10-week old Westie that Megan’s boyfriend got her for Christmas. She invited me over to come meet the little guy on Friday after work and I happily obliged!

I headed over to Megan’s around 7:30 p.m. and we spent a fun evening sipping wine, munching on appetizers, and playing with Tully, of course! My friend Courtney was there as well and we had a great time catching up on some girl talk ;) It was such a nice way to spend the evening!

After I got home from Megan’s I threw on my PJs and planned to stay in for the night, but after receiving a quick call from one of my high school friends who was in D.C. for the evening, I changed my mind and headed out to the bars. Big mistake.

You guys, I did something really stupid. I wore really high heels that had a broken zipper in the back. I drank, and then I danced, a lot. I fell in my stupid broken-zipper heels. And I sprained my ankle. Again.

(I thought I mentioned this in a post before but maybe I didn’t…anyway I am always spraining my ankle ever since I broke it in high school. I’ve probably sprained it seven or eight times in the past few years. Ugh.)

The worst part is I didn’t even get to see my friend. I also spent a ton of money and consumed way too many calories from the alcohol. And now I have a hurt ankle and can’t run or do any high-impact workouts for at least a week. WHY DO I DO THESE THINGS?

Saturday

When I woke up on Saturday my ankle was swollen to twice its normal size (it looked like an apple) and was all black and blue. I wish I could say that I spent the morning resting with my ankle propped up, but unfortunately I got a phone call at 9:00 a.m. announcing that the guys from Lowe’s had arrived and were ready to install new carpet in my apartment.

Oh right. The carpet people. I forgot about them.

Awesome. Who wouldn’t want to turn their apartment upside-down when they are extremely hungover and limping on one foot?

Although I love my landlord for offering to have new carpet installed, the timing for this could not have been worse.

I was seriously so miserable limping around trying to move all of the furniture from the living room into the bedroom and vice versa. Thank God Fabio was there to do a lot of the moving and the carpet guys were really nice and helped out. In the end my apartment was in total shambles.

A few very long and tiring hours later, everything was back in its place and we had a brand new beautiful carpet.

Phew! What a day lol. I have to admit, the first thing Fabio and I put back into place was the bed so that we could take a nap and recover from our hangovers ;) I was able to prop up my ankle, ice it for a while, and relax for a few hours which was definitely needed.

A little bit later on Saturday, Fabio and I drove over to my mom’s house to meet her for dinner! Jack came too, of course ;) (Clarification: he came to my mom’s house, not to dinner lol!)

I was feeling much better by this point and was really excited to have dinner with my mom, stepdad, stepsister, and her boyfriend. We wound up going to The Comus Inn, which is a beautiful little place overlooking Sugarloaf Mountain.

Sorry for the crappy dark iPhone pics!

When we arrived, we toasted with some delicious rosé champagne (wow it took me forever to add that é lol)

And then we ordered our food!

I started with some Maryland-style crab soup (aka spicy and full of veggies) which tasted really fresh and had so much scrumptious lump crab meat. I also snacked on a chive-flavored hush puppy that we all ordered to share. Yum!

For my entreé I ordered the filet minion after a recommendation from the waiter, which was delicious! It was a huge steak though, and I only managed to get through about half before throwing in the towel.

It was definitely a fun evening with my family and I had such a great time catching up and swapping funny stories :)

Sunday

Sunday was a bit more relaxing and Fabio and I stayed at home and recuperated for the majority of the day.

We did wind up taking Jack to the dog park, and he proudly wore his Redskins sweater :)

Too bad his sweater didn’t wind up bringing us the good luck that it usually does :( Oh well; until next season, Redskins.

Even though my ‘Skins lost, Fabio and I had a fun time watching the game at home. We enjoyed two Sam Adams chocolate flavored beers (which were actually really good!) and some buffalo chicken dip that was leftover from my visit to Megan’s apartment on Friday.

Later on around dinner time I whipped us up some quick chili and we enjoyed it while watching some more football.

Yumm! I do love chili!

After dinner I curled up with a new book I’m reading, The Violets of March (LOVE it so far!!!) and then we watched The Biggest Loser premier!

I have to warn you all that I am a big fan of The Biggest Loser and I will probably talk about it a lot now that it has recommenced. You have been warned!

Question of the day: Do you ever regret going out with friends and drinking too much?

Sure it can be fun to go out, but whenever I overdo it and wind up doing something stupid (hello, sprained ankle) I just feel like the biggest dummy. I always say “I’m never drinking again!” but that obviously never happens haha!

Hi guys! I hope you are all off to a great start to your week! I know my Monday has been CRAZY busy so far and I am finally getting a minute to breathe/finish eating my lunch. Phew! I always say though, a busy day is a good one!

Anyway, I had a great weekend and I want to tell you all about it so let’s get right to it!

[Rewind to Friday evening]

Friday after work Fabio and I had a date planned to celebrate my promotion. My dad gave me $75 to go out and celebrate and he even recommended an awesome French place, L’auberge Chez Francois, that he thought we should go to. He suggested that we go there because although it’s pricey, it would be a nice special occasion and he wanted me to always remember my first promotion. Isn’t he the greatest?? So, without hesitation Fabio and I made reservations for Friday evening.

I called ahead to ask about the dress code and the maître d’ (how French of me lol) explained that a jacket and tie were strongly recommended. Fabio was kind of happy about this because it meant he didn’t have to change out of his work clothes (boys! lol) and it meant I got to wear a nice dress :) I was happy!

The restaurant was only about 20 minutes away and when we pulled up we saw that it was a cute little old-fashioned cottage-type building.

The inside was decorated like a comforting French home and I loved the ambiance.

As you can see these pictures are not mine (thank you Washingtonian magazine for having pictures!) because I was trying to enjoy the evening without taking too many photographs. Sometimes you just gotta take a night off, ya know?

Anyway, we were seated immediately at a cozy table for two and were immediately given hot, garlicy bread. Yum!

We wound up ordering half a bottle of white wine (it was kinda pricey which is why we didn’t get a whole bottle) and doing the Price Fix menu which is 4 courses for about $60-$75 depending on which entree you choose.

I started with lobster bisque which was so delicious but incredibly rich and filling. I couldn’t even finish it all which never happens to me haha! Then there was a nice little tomato salad with shallots and arugala which I really enjoyed, but at that point I was already really full from the soup and all the bread (ugh bread is always my undoing). Plus I knew I had my entree coming so I didn’t eat much of the salad. For my entree I chose Dover sole fish with capers, mushrooms, and mixed veggies. It had a lemon on the side and was very simple and perfectly cooked. It was delicious.

Soo good!

Dessert was also included in the price fix menu so Fabio got creme brulee and I got a blueberry tart. However, when they brought the desserts out we saw that there was a complimentary chocolate souffle. This made me so excited because I really wanted the chocolate souffle but it cost extra. I couldn’t believe they brought it to us for free and I later found out that my dad had called the restaurant to order it for us as a surprise. HE IS SO SWEET!!!

Anyway, at this point we tried picking away at the three desserts in front of us even though we were already full from the other courses. I have to admit I made more of a dent in the chocolate souffle than any of the other desserts. My poor blueberry tart was pretty much forgotten at this point lol.

Because of all the courses we didn’t wind up leaving the restaurant until about 10:00 and when we got home we were in too much of a food coma to go out. We fell asleep immediately!

Saturday morning Fabio and I went out for a little shopping expedition in order to buy new sheets and some fall decoration for the apartment. Instead I came home with a new pair of colored jeans, two sweaters, yoga pants, and a blouse. Fabio bought a dress shirt, work pants, and zip-up hoodie. Haha not exactly what we planned but it was fun! I needed some new fall clothes anyway and they all came from Marshall’s so everything was cheap. Gotta love that!

After shopping we came back and decided to take a picnic up to the Iwo Jima memorial that is right near our apartment.

I packed us some snacks including one pesto chicken sandwich, one tuna salad sandwich, baby carrots and hummus, and grapes. We took Jack and a blanket and had a great day outside.

After we ate we hung out for a while reading our kindles and then headed back home. It was such a relaxing afternoon!

Later Saturday night we headed into D.C. for my friend Lauren’s birthday.

Lauren was my roommate in college both when we lived in the sorority house and when we lived in NYC for a summer. She also works with me so we are very close! It was a lot of fun because both my college and work friends got together to celebrate her birthday.

We wound up going out in Dupont Circle (which is right near our office BTW) which was great for me because it was a cheap cab ride home. Win! (I just typed “Wine!” lol I guess I’m thinking of happy hour already!)

Her birthday was a ton of fun and I’m so glad I could help her celebrate!Happy Birthday Lauren!!

Sunday was basically designated football day and all of Fabio’s friends came over to watch the game. Jack even got into the spirit.

He’s a ‘skins fan obviously, although Fabio will swear to you he’s a Giants fan lol.

Jack disagrees.

Anyway, Fabio’s friends came over to watch all the games and I cooked up some yummy snacks!

First up was some buffalo chicken dip.

To make this I first added 1 lb. of frozen, boneless, skinless chicken breasts to my crock pot with 1 cup of water, salt, and pepper. I let it cook on high for about two hours and then drained the water and shredded the chicken with two forks.

Then to the crock pot I added 1/2 a container of fat-free cream cheese (I think that’s 4 oz?), 1/2 cup fat free plain greek yogurt, 1/4 cup fat free ranch dressing, and 1/4 cup hot sauce (I used Franks). I then mixed all that in with the chicken and let it cook on high in the crock pot for about 30 minutes, or until everything was warmed through. I then served into little bowls and topped with fat free mozzarella and cheddar cheese. I put that under the broiler until it was hot and bubbly and served it with soy flax seed chips (which taste just like Tortilla chips) and baby carrots. It was delish!!!

Next I made these Nutella cookies and followed the recipe exactly only I used whole wheat flour instead of white flour. Not exactly healthy but….whatever. Haha!

Since the boys stayed from about 4:00 – 9:30 p.m. they started getting hungry again around 8:30. I whipped up some pizza crescent rolls by rolling out some Pillsbury reduced fat crescent roll dough, spreading some tomato sauce on top, and wrapping up half of a stick of reduced-fat string cheese in the mix.

They came out awesome and the mozzarella cheese was gooey and stringy. Just how I like it!

Anyway, all of these snacks were super easy and delicious and I recommend them all if you are having guests over for football snacks :)

By the time everyone left it was time for bed and I called it a night.

All in all it was a fantastic weekend!!

So tell me, what did you do this weekend? Did you watch any football games? I was so sad my Redskins lost :( Oh well! There’s always next week…
