Hello there! Thanks for stopping by today! I feel like it’s been a while since we’ve really had a chance to catch up, so I thought today would be a good day for a virtual coffee date. Plus, as I’m writing this on Tuesday night I’m pretty much glued to the TV watching election coverage (did you vote?!) so it’s going to be difficult for me to put anything too cohesive together anyway. 😉

So, let’s catch up over a cup of coffee! Go grab a cup and then come on back. I’ll wait! 🙂

Got one? Ok, let’s go.

(Yes, I’m totally using a photo from the coffee tour we did in Colombia because it was so awesome. Take me back!)

First, let’s talk about the election. It’s crazy that by the time you read this we will know who our next President will be. Wow! I still remember when President Obama won his first election back in 2008, which was around the time I first started hanging out with Fabio. I can remember there being crazy celebrations at the University of Maryland where we were, and now eight years later that time is coming to an end.

One thing that’s been on my mind lately is how my city will change. Maybe it won’t change at all, but I was listening to a podcast the other day that talked about how the reason DC has so many young residents and trendy pop-ups and amazing restaurants is because of the type of crowd that President Obama drew in. If Hillary wins I doubt the population of DC will change much, but if Trump wins I’m sure our city would take on a whole different feeling. Suddenly different types of people would be coming into our city–and I’m sure a lot of current residents would leave–so it’s an interesting perspective that I hadn’t really considered before.

Of course by the time you read this all of this will be old news anyway, so let’s move on. This flashback reminded me though…

Fabio and I are celebrating our 8 year anniversary on Friday. Wow. Eight years?? We were such babies when we first met! In that time we graduated college, got real jobs, moved in together, rescued Jack, moved to DC, got engaged, and bought a house. So crazy, right? We aren’t big on celebrating our anniversary, but I’m hoping this year we’ll actually do something to acknowledge it (as opposed to most years in the past). Here are some pictures of us from the early days!

Do you think we look the same or not so much?

I’m pretty sure I’m going to run the Cherry Blossom 10 Miler again in the spring. When our friend Jason was in town for the Marine Corps Marathon a couple of weeks ago, he said he wanted to run a DC race with us. I suggested the Rock n Roll Half since I still haven’t been able to run it (despite winning a bib a couple of years ago), but he said he really wants to see the cherry blossoms and Fabio said he’d rather run a 10 miler felt than a half, so that’s what we’re going to go for. (Now let’s hope the cherry blossoms will actually be out for the race…)

We are signing up for the lottery in early December, and I hope we get in!

This will be my first race since I had surgery on my foot in January 2015, and I have to admit I’m a bit scared. Running has not been a problem at all post surgery so there’s definitely no reason to be scared, but I know my foot went through a lot and I want to be really careful with my training so I don’t injure myself by overdoing it. I’ll have to come up with a good training plan! I also ran the last one pretty fast, so I’ll have to decide what I want my new time to be. You know I’ll keep you posted!

I’m going to a cool work event today where I get to watch research. We are in the process of developing new consumer-facing PSAs for work, and the company that’s helping us put them together will be testing the PSAs in Baltimore among real consumers in our target audience. They’ll be conducting in-person interviews as well as a couple of focus groups, and I get to sit behind the two-way mirror and see what people say about the concepts. It should be really interesting, and I’m excited to be a part of this kind of research!

My workouts have been very meh lately. I’m chugging along and doing my thing, but I’m not feeling super excited about my classes these days. I don’t want to sound like a brat, but I feel like DC had better classes than Virgina does, and I’m missing my classes at Flywheel and Reformation Fitness. Thank goodness MADabolic is on the scene now, and Georgetown is just a quick drive away. Of course I could always wake up earlier and drive in for those classes but…you know. #Spoiled

Alright friends, that’s all I have for you today. Have a great Wednesday!

Question of the day: What do you think about this year’s election results??
