Hello, and happy Monday! I had a really nice weekend, filled with lots of fun (albeit pretty unhealthy) activities. Hey, no one’s perfect! Here are the highlights.
Bianca’s birthday dinner: On Friday, a bunch of our friends met for dinner at Fireworks to celebrate my best friend Bianca’s 26th birthday.
After being cooped up in the house all day, I was more than ready to get out and spend some quality time with good friends.
Our table started off with an order of spinach artichoke dip and garlic knots, and when it came time to select an entree I decided to go halfsies with my friend Jamie on a pot of mussels and a personal pizza.
While the mussels weren’t the best I’ve ever had, they were still pretty tasty. Plus dunking the bread in the sauce is pretty much the best thing ever.
The pizza was quite delicious as well!
Of course we had to surprise the birthday girl by having our waiter bring her dessert.
We wound up getting her a warm cookie dough sundae, and you better believe between all of us we had no problem polishing it off.
We finished up our dinner with a round of birthday shots! (Nice photobomb, Sam! Haha!)
After dinner everyone came back to our apartment to keep the celebration going, which was so nice. Since I can’t really go out to a bar on my peg-leg, this was perfect.
It was such a fun night with my friends, and of course I loved that Jack got to partake too! Hooray!
Lunch on Saturday: I wound up having a nice ladies lunch on Saturday with two of my old coworkers, Claire (who you’ve heard about many a time here on the blog) and my old manager, Alexis. It was so nice catching up with them, especially Alexis whose little boy is now about a year and a half old. Man, time flies! It was so nice seeing pictures of him and hearing about his silly antics. 🙂
For lunch we went to La Tagliatella, where I ordered another pizza. This time I got prosciutto with arugula which was very tasty. I even had enough for leftovers, which I later shared with Fabio. Win!
Meal Planning: For some reason, everything I meal planned this week started with an S! Isn’t that weird?
Wow you guys – this oatmeal is on another level and I’m so glad I made enough to enjoy it all week! (I wound up doubling the recipe.) Seriously, this baked oatmeal is so good! I will definitely be adding this into my regular rotation.
Costco: If you’ve been reading this blog for a while, then you probably know that Fabio and I love our local Arlington Costco. However sometimes we will venture over to the Costco in DC for liquor (they don’t sell liquor in Virginia Costcos).
Fabio keeps a fully stocked liquor cabinet in our apartment, and he also keeps lots of mixers handy he can make us special drinks. It’s so fun living with a wannabe bartender!
Super Bowl: For the super bowl, a bunch of our friends came over! Fabio and I really didn’t have any plans for the super bowl this year, and since it’s hard for me to get around with the peg-leg we decided to bring the party to us! Perfect!
Here I am with my favorite girls before kickoff! Please note we are drinking some delicious sea breeze drinks that Fabio made for us. They were phe-nomenal.
Before everyone came over I made plenty of snacks including some calzones, Asian sticky wings, and buffalo chicken meatballs. We also had lots of dips, cheese, crackers, pepperoni, and salad – among other snacks – that my friends brought.
We had a great time watching the game and the commercials, and then when the fourth quarter started I brought out the star of the show – chocolate fondue!!
I got this fondue pot for Christmas last year, and for some reason we just never used it until now. Super bowl Sunday seemed like the perfect opportunity, and we enjoyed our melted chocolate with strawberries, pound cake, marshmallows, and bananas. Yum!
Overall it was a great weekend!
Question of the day: Who did you root for in the super bowl? What was your favorite commercial?
