Hi friends! Sorry I’m coming at you a day late today; life has been super busy and I haven’t had as much time to post as usual. That’s ok though, since everything making me busy is so fun! 🙂 I’ll try to get a few more posts up for you guys this week, but I’m warning you that it might be a little sporadic with the holidays. I’ll do my best!
Anyway, here’s a little peek at my awesome fall weekend!
After work on Friday I headed to Irish Four Courts, a fun bar right up the street from my apartment, to meet up with two of my best friends from home, Bianca and Sam! I’m so lucky that Bianca lives just a couple miles away, and Sam is going to PT school right near us too. Having them close by is such a blessing, and I love when we get the opportunity to meet up. Love these two! We were just missing Hana and then our foursome would have been complete!
I didn’t stay out with them long though because I had big plans for Saturday morning…an 11 mile run!
Luckily Saturday dawned bright and sunny, albeit pretty cold. My iPhone said 28 degrees when I left my apartment! Brr!
I headed to Iwo Jima at around 9:00 am to start the day’s run. I was lucky that Anne offered to run with me for part of the way. What a good friend. 🙂
While I waited for her to arrive I took a little selfie with the Iwo Jima memorial, as one does.
Soon Anne arrived and then we were off! We wound up doing an out-and-back along the Mount Vernon trail, and it was literally the most perfect day for it. The sun felt awesome and it wasn’t too cold once we got going. It was the best fall running weather!
Initially Anne was just going to run 6 or 7 miles with me, but she felt good once we got going so she kept me company for the whole thing. Woohoo! Since Fabio used to run with me during these training runs, I was somewhat dreading doing 11 miles solo. That’s a long time to be by yourself! Thank goodness Anne decided to join me. 🙂
I was feeling good for the majority of our run, but the last mile was definitely a struggle for me. I know I’ve mentioned before that we live on top of a huge hill, so the last mile was really hilly and steep. Anne kept me going and wouldn’t let me stop, and for that I am so grateful. Running buddies make all the difference!
Overall it was a great run, and I was pretty happy with our pace too (9:11 per mile). That Holiday Half Marathon has nothing on me! (I hope…lol)
After my run I showered up, and then Fabio ran a couple of very important errands. You see, Saturday was Jack’s fourth birthday!
I can’t believe our pup is already four. Where is the time going?!
Fabio and I aren’t crazy dog parents, but we do like to do a little something nice for Jack on his birthday. We decided to first take him to the dog park to run around, and then we took him to Unleashed by Petco for a nice grooming sesh and a new toy of Jack’s pick. 🙂
Unleashed has these awesome wash stations that you can use for $10 to give your pup a bath. They have shampoo, conditioner, brushes, towels, and a big hair dryer thing.
To be honest this wasn’t Jack’s favorite part of his birthday (at all!) but we had fun lathering him up! 🙂
Plus I don’t know what they use in their conditioner (which is all natural and organic, I believe) but Jack is soooo soft right now! We will definitely be bringing him back here for baths more often. It was so much easier (and more fun!) than using our shower!
After his bath, we let Jack wander around the store and pick out a treat. He wound up getting a deer antler thing, but I really wanted to buy him one of these “happy birthday” cookies. Next time.
The rest of Saturday evening was spent snuggling on the couch with a chicken and tomato pizza and a movie. We wound up watching Lone Survivor and man was it intense!
Perfect Saturday night!
After a good night’s rest, I was up-and-at-em on Sunday morning because I had some business in the kitchen!
I wound up making these turkey cupcakes, and I think they came out pretty cute if I do say so myself. I couldn’t find any candy corn for the tail feathers, but I think they still look cute with Twizzler tails!
I also didn’t use a box cupcake mix (made up my own invention kind of) so I’ll let you know how those turn out!
Later in the afternoon I met up with Bianca again for a big brunch with our friends!
Our friend Tomas was in town from out of the US (he’s from the Netherlands but is currently living in St. Lucia) so naturally everyone wanted to get together to celebrate his visit. We wound up going to Local 16 for their delicious $23 bottomless brunch.
It was fantastic, as usual. After brunch we kept the party going by heading to A-Town to watch some football games. It was definitely more of a Sunday funday than I was anticipating (we didn’t get home until about 9:00 pm and had consumed our weight in beer and other not-so-good-for-you treats) but it was a super fun day and who knows when Tomas will come to visit us again.
All in all I’d say it was a pretty fantastic weekend!
Questions of the day: What do you like to do on Sundays? What are you making for Thanksgiving?!
