A lot of you have been asking me about how the Kayla Itsines eBooks are working out, and I just wanted to let you know that I’ve been trying to write an update for you since Wednesday!! I worked on it again yesterday, but work has been really busy lately (my manager will be out of the country for two weeks and she’s left me in charge of everything. Gulp!) and by the time I got home I was brain dead. I really want to give my update some thought and don’t just want to rush through it, so I’ll have that for you guys next week. In short though- it’s going great, and I’ve already noticed a difference in how my clothes fit/how I feel about my body. Woohoo! I can’t wait to tell you guys more.
In the meantime, it’s Friday so let’s see all of the things I’ve been loving this week in today’s Favorite Things Friday!
I told you guys about the FedUp documentary in my work update a couple weeks ago, and it officially came out in theaters last Friday. Because of my job, I was given a special link and password to watch the movie early (in case we wanted to do any press releases/statements/social media on it) so on Monday night Fabio and I had a movie night and watched the movie after we finished dinner.
The movie was absolutely incredible and I think Fabio and I were both shocked by what we saw, even though we knew a little of what to expect. I don’t want to say too much about it right now because a) I’m planning to write about it more in my next work update and b) I don’t want to spoil anything for those who want to see it, but I will say that it talked a lot about the food industry in America and explains why people have trouble losing weight and/or gain weight so easily, even when they think they are eating healthy.
There were a ton of statistics and information in the video that blew my mind, and when it was over I had a whole new outlook on half of the “healthy” foods in my kitchen. It’s really interesting and I definitely recommend seeing it if you’re at all interested in food and nutrition. Here’s the trailer again, in case you need more convincing!
I’ll be honest. When the alarm went off this morning at 5:30 for my workout, I did NOT want to get up (ok, when do I ever?). I could hear that it was absolutely pouring outside (we’ve been sleeping with the windows open since it’s that nice time of year when you don’t really need heat or air conditioning) and my bed seemed so much cozier.
Eventually I thought about how good I would feel once my workout was over, so I sucked it up and headed outside to walk Jack in the torrential downpour before working out. It was raining so hard that you could see it coming down in sheets and instead of running all over the place to sniff for squirrels and pee on everything Jack stayed huddled with me under the umbrella.
After walking him he was absolutely soaked, and I had fun drying him off (he loves being dried with a towel). When I got ready for my workout he was still a little wet, and I thought he just looked so cute.
He kept me company during my workout, and even tried licking some of my sweat off when I was done (ew?). It just made me stop to think this morning how much I love this little bundle of fur, and how he makes me happy every day (even when it’s pouring rain and I’d rather be snuggled in bed). He keeps me company, makes me laugh, and gives me so much love. Getting a dog was probably the best decision Fabio and I ever made!
Tuesday my little sister Nicole turned nine years old!! I can’t believe she’s that old. Where has the time gone??
My dad picked me up from work on Tuesday and I went over to their house to celebrate.
It was so nice to watch Nicole open the gift I got her, which was the third Harry Potter book (she just finished the first two), a Harry Potter book mark, and a Harry Potter “wand.” As a big Harry Potter fan myself, it’s been fun to watch her read these books for the first time. I wish I could go back and do that again!
She loved it!
All of my stepmom’s family came over as well, so we had quite the full house! We had a nice dinner together and then celebrated with birthday cake.
Haha! I love those two pictures.
It was a really nice evening and I’m so glad I was able to spend time with my sister for her birthday. It’s so important now that she’s getting older!
BTW for her actual birthday party this Saturday, she will be having a sleepover with about 10 of her girlfriends. My dad asked if I wanted to come (ha!) but I declined It’s too bad it’s not a pool party where adults are invited too like in years past!
Fabio’s dad bought me flowers last weekend (for being a “dog mommy” I suppose, or just because he’s so sweet!) and it has been so nice seeing them all week! The bouquet of roses he got me are looking beautiful, and they’ve really opened up since last weekend!
He also got me an orchid plant which has opened up as well. There were a lot of buds on it just waiting to open up when I first got it, and one of them has opened already I know orchids are notorious for being easy to kill, but I’ve been following the instructions to a tee (apparently you water them with ice cubes?) and am crossing my fingers that I can keep this plant alive!!
There’s also a pretty dogwood tree blooming in my neighborhood, which I love seeing on my walks with Jack. I love spring!
Ever since I got my kindle back in 2011, I haven’t really set foot inside a book store. I used to go to Borders all the time before I had a Kindle, but as soon as I got it that pretty much ended. One thing I really miss about the book store is their book recommendations! Amazon’s “Recommended For You” suggestions are decent, but I miss being able to see recommendations for specific book genres (sometimes I’m in the mood for a murder mystery, and sometimes I want to read about witches!).
When I went to Barnes and Noble earlier this week to pick up Harry Potter for my sister, I snapped a picture of the table with recommendations for Historical Fiction, which is probably my favorite book genre, so I can refer back to it each time I need a new book. I had already read (and loved!) a number of the books on the table, but I found a few new ones too! I am now reading Girl with the Pearl Earring and I am hooked. It’s a good one!
For a list of some other books I’ve been reading lately check out my Books page!
Alright guys and gals, that’s all I have for you today! Wherever you are and whatever you do, have a fantastic weekend!
Question of the day: What’s your favorite type of book?
