Hey there people! Happy first day of February! Can you believe it? I feel like January really flew by. I’m pretty happy about that, since it’s literally my least favorite month ever (followed closely by February and then March…literally lol).

Now it’s only a little while longer until it’s actually warm out! And I don’t mean warm on a random Tuesday and then it’s snowing again on Wednesday. Like, permanently warm. Can’t wait!

Another thing I can’t wait for? This weekend! I have some fun plans on the schedule including hosting a Superbowl party on Sunday with a bunch of my closest friends! Now I just have to decide what to make…I was thinking some of these stuffed pretzel bites (which look delicious but might be too much trouble right before company arrives) or maybe these crunchy potato balls. I have to send an email out to my friends to see what everyone else is bringing, which will probably affect what I make. So many options! If you have a Superbowl go-to please let me know in the comments below.

As a side-note, I should also mention that although I typically don’t like the Ravens, I will be rooting for them this Sunday. Although I have lived in Maryland my whole life (as have both of my parents and their parents), I have always been a Redskins fan since I grew up in a suburb outside of Washington DC (also my whole family roots for the Redskins).

Yes, I am wearing a North Face fleece and sweatshirt under my jersey! Not an easy feat!

Redskins and Ravens fans have always had a bit of tension (at least in my opinion) since there can only be one “real” local team. Being from Maryland, there was often some debate as to which team was more “local.”

I don’t usually like Ravens fans for that reason alone, but since this is now at a national level I will put that behind me and root for my state’s team. Oh yeah, and I might live in Virginia now, but I will always be a Marylander, and a Redskin fan at heart :)

Circa 2007. Do you recognize Bianca and Hana?

Not that I care that much about the Superbowl anyway. I’m more excited to spend time with my friends eating good food, playing a few drinking games, and watching the commercials! Woohoo!

Anyway, enough chatter. It’s Friday and you know what that means…it’s time for my Favorite Things Friday!

Favorite Snack

Fabio has been buying our produce at the Asian supermarket near his job recently since the prices are so much better than our typical grocery store. When he got home from work the other day with our produce he said he had “a few surprise items.” Gulp. Who knows what that could mean.

As he started unloading the groceries he pulled out a cucumber (“to make┬átzatziki sauce!”), one small yellow squash (“the brussels sprouts didn’t look so hot so I got this instead”) and these delicious strawberries (“they were on sale!”). Woohoo!! Thank you babe!! I have loved eating these all week!

Favorite Dessert

Another food I have been loving? This recipe for a brownie in a mug. Ever since Tina posted it a few weeks ago, I have been trying to restrain myself from making it more than twice a week.

Yes, you read that correctly. I have already made it at least twice a week since she shared the recipe and I have to try to keep myself from making it more frequently.

Plus with only 1 tbsp. of nut butter (I used Better ‘N Butter peanut butter), 1 tbsp. of egg whites, 1 tsp. of cocoa powder, a few drops of vanilla stevia, a sprinkle of salt and a sprinkle of baking powder, this “brownie” isn’t that terrible for you! And it’s delicious. And it’s made in a mug. And it only takes 30 seconds in the microwave. In conclusion: you must try this.

Favorite Weather (haha I guess this is becoming an official FTF title)

Do you see that? Sixty-nine degrees. Yes, it was a beautiful day. Yes, I made it a point to go outside during the day to enjoy the sun (which included a whopping 30 second walk to CVS and back. Humph). Yes, it snowed this morning and is blustery and cold. Sigh. Why does this always happen in January? Oh how I long for you, sixty-nine degree weather.

Favorite Work Event

Yesterday afternoon we got to stop work half an hour early to enjoy a Superbowl themed happy hour. I spent some much-needed time munching on appetizers, sipping white wine, and chatting with my coworkers. It’s so fun to talk to my coworkers outside of normal business topics, especially since most of them are around my age and we have a lot in common. I love times like these when I can get to know them a little better and joke around. Such a fun evening!

Favorite Delivery

Check out these cute boots I ordered online from Francesca’s. I’ve been wanting them for months (literally- I first saw them around Thanksgiving) but I already have a ton of shoes and couldn’t justify their $88 price tag. Around the holidays they went on sale for %50 off, bringing them down to $44, but I still didn’t bite the bullet (I was trying to be good! Trying to save money!). Then last week they started a sale for %50 off all boots, so I gave in and bought these little babies for $22!! The sale is still going on so hurry if you want these boots, or any other Francesca’s boots, at the reduced price!

Favorite Surprise

While making dinner one night this week I pulled out the vegetable drawer in the fridge, only to find a surprise inside. Can you spot it? LOL Jack’s tennis ball was in the drawer! I guess he dropped it in there another night when I had the fridge open. Maybe he wanted to help make dinner? Haha, silly pup!

Alright guys that’s all I have for this week’s Favorite Things Friday!! I hope you all have a wonderful weekend and I’ll talk (write?) to you on Monday!

Question of the day: What should I make for my Superbowl party?

  1. I’ve been eyeing those brownie-in-a-mug recipes for the last week and havent tried them yet. Although from the sounds of it maybe I shouldn’t start or I’m going to get hooked! Also, too funny about Jack’s tennis ball in the fridge. I’m suprised we haven’t found anything of Laney’s in the bottom drawer freezer yet! I do find it interesting that you’re a Skins fan instead of a Raven’s fan though. Growing up on the VA side, we were obviously Skins fans, but I always assumed MD people would be Ravens fans!

    • I think it also comes from generation after generation of Skins fans. My grandparents would kill me if I rooted for any other team! Also when I was growing up DC was only about 30 mins from my house, whereas Baltimore was more like an hour and a half. DC has just always been more of “my city” than Baltimore.

  2. Fresh strawberries on sale in the middle of winter? Thats awesome! They are so expensive around me right now! I made a chili last night with lots of vegetables to eat during the super bowl. Veggies and humus, chili, wheat thins and buffalo chicken dip and some kind of sweet treat are my favorite sports watching foods

    • Yeah I just went back to buy two more containers of strawberries. Each container is only 99 cents!! Those Asian grocery stores have the cheapest produce!

  3. Hahaha the tennis ball in the fridge. That’s adorable. He was just being helpful, right? ;)
Sad story: I just asked my roommate who the ravens are playing on Sunday. That’s how informed I am about football. I’m in it for the food. I’ve also had mug cakes before. AMAZING. I love how fast they cook, too! Cake batter is my fave :)

  4. baaaahaha I have a similar mug cake I make that I TRY to restrain myself from making once a week. usually fail…

  5. Strawberries have been surprisingly good lately. They are one of my favorite fruits :) .

LOVE those boots. Those are totally my style!

Hahaha..that is so funny that you found the tennis ball in the produce drawer. I definitely would have cracked up laughing.

  6. I know it’s hard for you, but boy am I glad your rooting for the Ravens. Being a Packers fan, I deeply despise the 49ers for knocking them out of the playoffs.

  7. Those boots are so cute! I think I might just have to get myself a pair :)

  8. Haha I love that you found Jack’s ball in the fridge! How funny.
Oooh the pretzels look really yummy – they’d be my preference! I could eat pretzels all day long :)
I really don’t support any sport teams. I mean I suppose I sort of do as Ben supports our local football (soccer) team so I guess I have to go along with that but I don’t watch them at all. Maybe when the world cup’s on I watch a match or two!
I need to get Ben to buy grocery surprises for me! That’s so sweet of Fabio :)

    • Do you ever watch the Chelsea Football Team? I always used to think it was funny that I had the same name as the soccer/football team! Whenever Fabio’s relatives (from Colombia) can’t understand my name I always say, “like the football team!” and then they get it. Haha!

  9. Yay my comment appeared! :)

    • Yess!! Haha I played around with the settings over the weekend and did a special search for “Anna” and I think I fixed the problem! For some reason you were getting buried in my spam folder :( It should be fixed now!
