Dec 212012

Well guys, my office is silent, the metros are (relatively) empty, and we are all starting to feel that holiday itch. I just have to make it a little bit longer and then my wonderful extended vacay will begin. Even though I’m not going anywhere crazy for the holidays, I simply cannot wait to hang out over the next eleven days with family and friends that I hardly ever get to see.

On Sunday and Monday I will be with my dad’s family, and then on Tuesday and Wednesday I will be with my mom’s side. I will have the rest of the week off from work to hang out and do whatever I’d like πŸ™‚

I am so blessed that everyone will be able to get together this year to enjoy the holiday season (this will be the first time in years that my mom will be with both her siblings at the same time). Also, I’ve never spent Christmas with Fabio since he is usually in New York with his family, so I am really, really happy about thatΒ  πŸ™‚ I am just so excited to get started on this awesome week ahead of me!! So with that, let’s get to this week’s Favorite Things Friday!

Favorite Gifts

So, I think it should be noted that I have some amazing coworkers. Noted.

Take, for example, these delicious coconut macaroons (I don’t even like coconut!) with a dark chocolate coating on the bottom. So delicious and so thoughtful (I ate them all. Like, every single bite of them. Oops.)

Then there is this fancy bottle of red wine that my manager brought in for me. She is a big wine-taster and she told me this is one of her favorites. πŸ™‚ Can’t wait to try it!

Then another generous coworker brought in a box of Harry & David pears for us all to share (OMG I forgot just how good they are!)

And one of my fellow-Maryland alumnae coworkers brought me in this adorable turtle dish (Testudo!) that I’m currently using to store paper clips and such. He’s so cute though that I’m thinking of taking him home to be the key/jewelery collector!

And then I was given a gift card to a local coffee shop, which will definitely come in handy (and how cute is that card, by the way??)

And lastly, the head of our team brought us in some champagne and a sweet card πŸ™‚ I am so blessed to work with such an amazing group of people who make coming in to work every day so much easier. I’ve had jobs before that I hated and thankfully, due to the kindness of my coworkers, I know this will never be one of them.

Favorite Holiday Treat

Bet you were expecting a dessert of some type, right? Well, that is coming later, but it’s important to remember that you can treat yourself to things other than food πŸ˜‰ I mean come on, we’re not dogs (just occasionally food-obsessed humans haha!). In fact, because I was feeling so good about my weight loss this week, I treated myself to a holiday manicure. Of course I chose the sparkliest red nail polish I could find (this picture doesn’t even do it justice!) to go with the holiday theme.

Favorite Baked Gifts to Give

This year in addition to bringing presents for my family, I made them a few baked goods to enjoy during the holidays πŸ™‚ I made this pound cake (not healthy AT ALL – yikes) using the bundt pan my aunt got me. I’m planning to dust it with a bit of powdered sugar and wrap it up in some red cellophane to bring to my grandmother’s house on Christmas Eve. I hope she likes it!

I also made a few red velvet cake balls using this recipe that I’m planning to bring to my grandmother and my mom.

Naturally I had to taste one just to make sure it tasted ok. Don’t worry, it did! Haha.

And now they are all packaged up and ready to go! I can’t wait to see what my family says!

Favorite Acts of Kindness

So hopefully by now you guys have all heard about the 26 Random Acts of Kindness that are going on. People have been doing nice things for one another in honor of the Sandy Hook victims that died last week. Each person is supposed to do 26 nice things for others and encourage them to pass it on. So far I have given a few dollars to a homeless veteran and bought two $5 gift cards to Subway that I plan to give out this afternoon to more homeless people. I have a number of other ideas in mind, but there is a great list of other activities you could do here. I hope that you all will join me in completing 26 random acts of kindness to honor those precious lives lost. It’s very easy and together we can make a huge difference.

So that’s it for today’s Favorite Things Friday! I hope you all have a wonderful holiday and enjoy spending time with those that you love!!

Also FYI, I don’t know what my posting schedule will be like next week, but I’ll try to stop in as often as I can.

Happy Holidays!!

We get 3 days for Christmas, then it’s back in the office, and then off again for New Years. It also sounds like you have really awesome coworkers. Sometimes that can absolutely make or break a job!
