Despite having a miserable cold, this was one of the best weekends I’ve had in a while. It went by so fast though – can I get a do-over? I have a ton of pictures to share, so let’s get into the recap!
My good friend Kristen was in town this weekend from Philly, so on Friday we met up with her and our friends Megan and JR for dinner at Uncle Julio’s and then a night out in DC.
[This was at a cool speakeasy called Tilt in the back of Black Jack!]
We wound up staying out super late, but it was more of a relaxed evening where we sat chatting at the bar for hours while we nursed our drinks. I needed that time to catch up with my best girls! It was such a fun time. 🙂
On Saturday we woke up bright and early and drove over to my grandparents’ house on the Chesapeake Bay! It was a beautiful fall day, and like always I had to stop and admire the view from their kitchen.
The reason we stopped by was because they were getting rid of their couch, and offered to give their old one to us! Yes! It’s quite an upgrade from our old Ikea couch, so we happily rented a U-Haul and went over to pick it up. Couch success!
It really is SUCH a nice couch, and we are so thankful that my grandparents offered it to us. 🙂
Later in the day, we drove over to my mom’s house to celebrate her birthday! Rose champagne for all!
We ate a delicious meal outside, enjoying the last of the warm(ish) weather.
My stepdad cooked us giant steaks for dinner, and my mom made the most amazing eggplant parmesan. Seriously, that stuff was so good. We also had homemade rolls on the side!
We wound up spending the rest of the evening chatting with my mom and stepdad, and it was really nice! Just what my mom wanted for her birthday, I think.
On Sunday, my mom and stepdad headed out for church while Fabio and I opted to sleep in (especially with my cold, I felt like I needed to rest!). When they returned home, my stepdad made some of his delicious potato hash and a perfectly poached egg, plus another one of my mom’s rolls. Yum!!
After breakfast, we headed out to a fox hunting celebration! My stepdad used to fox hunt all the time, and Sunday was opening day (basically a big party to kick off the season). Quick 101 on fox hunting: think of the scene in Marry Poppins where the fox is running, the hounds are chasing him, and the men on horses are chasing the hounds. The fox hardly ever gets caught and they don’t use guns or anything, so it’s basically just a way to ride your horse in the countryside and spend time with dogs and your friends. 🙂

Sunday’s gathering was held at the beautiful Tusculum Manor, which consisted of a gigantic barn and a beautiful house. Apparently they host a lot of weddings too. Imagine if this was your driveway!
We brought my sister along for the fun too, since my mom figured she would like seeing all the horses and the dogs. 🙂
We spent a few minutes saying hello to my stepdad’s friends and enjoying some snacks, and before we knew it most of the riders were mounting their horses.
At this point we were all just waiting for the hounds to arrive! Soon enough, we saw all 30 or so of them coming up the hill. 🙂
There were soooo many dogs, and once they got to the top of the hill they all started running around and rolling in the grass. It was so cute! My sister and I were in doggy heaven, and we pet as many as we could.
Amazingly, the master of the hounds (the man in red in the photo above) knows the name of every dog even though they all look alike. They were really well-behaved too!
It was really nice of my mom and stepdad to invite us all along for the fun, especially for thinking of my sister. Thanks, guys! We had a blast!
Once the horses and the hounds left for their hunt, we took my sister back to my dad’s house. My stepmom requested that we take some photos for the family Christmas card, so we headed over to a couple of parks nearby so my dad could get some pictures of us. He wound up getting a TON of good ones, which I’ll share with you now. Enjoy!
(I think this next one is my favorite!)
So many good ones to choose from, right?
Once we were done with our photo shoot, Fabio and I headed back home. Phew! It was a busy weekend! As I write this post (on Sunday night) we are debating what to have for dinner – my vote is Pho since my cold is in full swing. Yuck.
Question of the day: What was the highlight of your weekend?
