Hi friends! How about a little fashion talk on this Friday? It’s always good to switch things up, right?
When Fabio and I were in Paris a couple of weeks ago, I couldn’t stop noticing all the fashionable women. Before we left, a friend of mine told me to look closely at what Parisian women were wearing, since those styles will likely become trendy here in the US in about a year. This advice really stood out to me, and I paid close attention to everything!
One thing I noticed about the women in Paris was that their outfits were always so simple: skinny jeans, sneakers or boots, a structured blazer or leather jacket, a statement scarf, and a bag. That’s it! And yet somehow they all radiated this sense of being so put together from head to toe, which is something I’d like to get better at. I think I already have a lot of basic pieces in my wardrobe, but what I’m missing is the accessories to pull it all together!
When it comes to fashion, I certainly like to look nice and follow the trends, but I’m also pretty easy going and very frugal. This means that while I can enjoy a nice ensemble, I’m not always as good at recreating it myself. Now that we’re back from our trip and it’s a new season, I have a new desire to get with the times and update a few pieces in my collection!
Let’s take a look at what I have in mind.
I think every girl needs a good pair of black booties! I currently have a beige pair of booties that I love and wore all the time last year, but somehow I made it through all of last fall and winter without a black pair. There were about a million times when I wished I had them, but for some reason I never pulled the trigger. This year I vowed not to do that to myself again, so I’m going to start of the season with a new pair of black booties.
Here are some of the ones I like:
- Piace Boutique – $42.99 (sold out in my size, unfortunately)
- Lucky Brand – $139 (I love these!! Too bad they’re so expensive…maybe for my birthday?)
- Nordstrom BP Trolley – $99
- Nordstrom BP Trott – $119
- Francesca’s – $58 (I don’t actually like these all that much, but they’re much more affordable)
- Old Navy – $39 (Ok, I really don’t like these at all but they’re so cheap!)
Which ones do you guys like? Also, if you have any recommendations for nice but still affordable booties I’d love to hear about them in the comments section below! I’m thinking of maybe checking out the ones at Target too?
Fashionable sneakers were a huge trend in Paris! I feel like they’re pretty big here in the states too, but they were everywhere in Europe. I saw a lot of women wearing white converse sneakers and I’ve been wanting a pair for a while, so I finally broke down and bought a pair! I bought these ones for just $47.99, and am so excited to wear them with skinny jeans this fall.
Now I just have to hope I don’t get them too dirty, or can at least figure out a good way to clean them! :-/
You may not believe this, but I also saw a TON of women wearing these old school ADIDAS sneakers. I had a pair of these back in 7th grade!
The first time I saw a woman in France wearing ADIDAS sneakers with the traditional three stripes (like the really old school kind – not even the newer ones pictured above), I thought it must just be a random shoe choice, but throughout our trip I kept seeing them over and over! These shoes are back! I thought about jumping on the trend early and buying a pair now, but I just couldn’t justify it yet. I can’t wait to see if this trend comes back to the US!
Also before I move on, I just have to give a shout out to these sneaker-esque slip-ons that I bought from H&M earlier this spring for just $24.
I love that these are cheap, comfortable enough to walk in all day, and still pretty stylish. I definitely recommend these!
As I mentioned above, a ton of women in Paris wore statement scarves. While I already have a ton of basic scarves, seeing all of these women made me wish I had a few more bold, statement scarves that can really pull a simple outfit together.
After browsing around on Pinterest (follow me!) for a little while, I found a few that I liked!
I wound up buying this extra large “blanket” scarf from Etsy for just $17!
I can’t wait for it to arrive so I can wear it all fall. 🙂 Now I just have to figure out how to wear it the right way…
By the way, that Etsy store had a ton of other cute stuff, and I even added it to my list of favorite stores so I can keep an eye on their products. Check it out!
Here are some other plaid scarf/poncho items that I like for fall:
- She-in – $14.50
- Nordstrom – $55
And last but not least, I treated myself to this cute puffer vest from J. Crew when I saw they were having a sale and free shipping the other day. It was originally $128 and I got it for about $60! Sweet!
And now my bank account hates me, but at least I feel a little more prepared to step up my fashion game this fall. We will see how it goes!
Question of the day: What are some fall fashion items you can’t live without? Feel free to leave links in the comments below!
