Hi friends! Did everyone have a nice weekend?

Mine was busy because I attended the Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics Weight Management Symposium in Baltimore on Friday and Saturday for work! Even though I wound up working for much of the day on Saturday, I didn’t mind at all since I got to learn about lots of cool new weight loss techniques, and I have off today to make up for it. Woohoo!

On Friday morning I headed over to Baltimore and checked into the Hyatt Regency Hotel where I was staying during the conference. My room was on the 11th floor and had a nice view of the harbor. 🙂

When I picked up my badge from registration, they gave me a bag of swag and a new scale. Nice!

Then it was conference time! I sat through a number of sessions on Friday and learned so many new strategies for managing your weight. It was fascinating! I learned so much and plan to write about all of it, but I’m still trying to figure out if I can get it all into one post or if it will need to be broken out into a couple. Stay tuned!

Around lunchtime I took a break from the conference and decided to get some lunch on my own. I took a walk down the road and wound up at Nalley Fresh, a salad spot that had a lot of good reviews on Yelp. When I arrived I saw that the line was out the door, which I thought was a good sign even if it was a little annoying.

I wound up ordering a salad with mixed greens, spicy Thai pork, lots of mixed vegetables, feta cheese, and cilantro vinaigrette. So tasty!

I enjoyed my lunch outside in the sunshine. It’s finally feeling like spring around here!

I wound up staying in conference sessions until around 7:00 pm, at which point I met up with Fabio, who had driven over after work.

Once Fabio dropped off his bag, we walked over to our friends Jay and Meg’s house. Jay and Meg offered to watch Jack for us since we were staying in the hotel, and it worked out great! Once we dropped Jack off and enjoyed a drink with Jay and Meg, we walked over to Liv2Eat for dinner. There are so many cute restaurants in Baltimore, and I love that we try new ones every time we go. Liv2Eat was great!

We started off with an (unpictured) order of risotto balls, and then I got a burger and fries for dinner. Everything was so delicious!

I wound up eating half and gave the other half to Fabio. So good!

After dinner we headed back to the hotel and hit the hay. I had an early day on Saturday so I wanted to get plenty of sleep!

Saturday morning included more sessions – I stayed at the conference from about 7:00 am – 3:00 pm. While I was at my meeting, Fabio went golfing with a bunch of his friends. He wrapped up golf at the same time that I finished with my sessions, so it worked out perfectly.

Once we were done, we walked back over to Jay and Meg’s place to hang out with our friends! Jack joined us while we sipped a few beers. 🙂

It was such a nice day out, so we took our beverages up to the roof where we played a game of Nasty Things. Has anyone played this game? It’s similar to Cards Against Humanity but not quite as crude. It was a lot of fun!

Once the sun went down, we walked over to Blue Agave for dinner. Our group ordered a pitcher of margaritas, and Fabio and I shared an order of fajitas for our meal. Everything was delicious! I highly recommend this spot if you’re ever looking for Mexican food in Fed Hill.

After dinner, we went back to Jay and Meg’s to play some card games, and then a group of us walked over to Ropewalk Tavern for a fun night out.

We had a great time!

We got to sleep in as late as we wanted on Sunday, which was glorious. After hanging out with Jay and Meg for a little while longer and picking up Jack, we hit the road to head back to DC. We got home around 2:00 pm and still had time to do laundry and a couple of chores around the apartment.

The weather was absolutely perfect, so our little family went on an extra long walk in the evening.

We finished up the night with episodes of Anthony Bourdain’s Parts Unknown, and we watched the Colombia episode since we are going to Colombia in a little more than a month with Fabio’s family and a couple of our friends! 🙂 Can’t wait!

Question of the day: Have you ever been to Baltimore?

  1. I just got back from my two week honeymoon in Colombia. We went to Cartagena, Medllin, Cali and Bogota. Which cities are you going to? You will love it!

    • We are going to Medellin and Cartagena! Any tips or suggestions would be welcome!

      • El Baluarte is another fortress like set up bar but offers only drinks. It doesn’t show up on many of your searches but we got this recommendation from a local and was one of our best spots in Cartagena. Their service is amazing, drinks are delicious and views are beautiful!

i’m sure you will go to Cafe Del Mar in Cartagena but even though it opens at 5pm (I think) try to go there atleast 30-40 minutes before. You won’t get bored cause the views are amazing but even though the place is so (soo) huge it gets packed really really fast and you want to get a good sunset viewing spot.

Rosario Islands, Volcano Del Tutomo are other tourist spots in Cartagena.

      • In Medellin – Do not miss the opportunity to go paragliding. It was the best activity we did in our entire trip. The best part about this paragliding experience is you get to see views of the biggest city and also mountains, waterfalls, etc. We used ‘Paragliding Medellin’ as our paralgiding company.

If you are going to Guatape – you should go as early as possible. That place gets packed so so quickly and we were lucky to get there early and get space to enjoy the views.

We were in Medellin for four nights and we ended everyday by spending it at Park LLeras. That is one of the most lively, happening places ever. There are literally 40 restaurants bars in one park area.

Pablo Escobar tour, city walking tour are other tourist things you could do as well. I personally did not enjoy the metro cable ride that much. Thought it was slightly over-hyped.

Hope this helps! Let me know if you have any questions 🙂

  2. I live right down the street from Liv2Eat (and I’ve lived in Fed for over 3 years) and I’ve never been! Guess I should go 🙂 next time you’re in Baltimore, make sure you go to Blue Moon for brunch!! They just opened one in Fed next to Blue Agave, and the original location is in Fells. It’s TO DIE FOR.

    • That’s the same situation my friends were in – they live right on Light Street and had never been. It was really good! We saw the crowd outside Blue Moon on Sunday but didn’t have time to stop in. Next time!
