Hello there, and happy Monday! I hope you had a nice weekend filled with lots of fun – I know we sure did!

Our good friend from college (and Fabio’s groomsman) Jason just moved to D.C. from New York City, and we could NOT be more excited to have him in our city. He’s only been in town for a week, so after work on Friday we headed over to check out his new digs. His apartment is located right in the heart of Dupont, and it’s massive! What a great place!

We spent some time drinking beers and catching up with Jason before we all got hungry and decided to walk over to Mission for dinner. I’d only ever been there once for happy hour, but I remembered the atmosphere was a lot of fun and the food was delicious. I wound up getting three tacos: one salmon, one shrimp, and one fried plantain. They were all delicious, but the shrimp one was especially tasty. A little on the spicy side too!

When dinner was done we sat around catching up for a little while longer before Fabio and I headed back home. We are so happy to have one of our best friends living close by!

On Saturday morning, I drove into Southeast D.C. for a yoga date with my friend Jojo! Jojo and I both went to college together, but we didn’t become good friends until we worked together after graduation. It’s been years since we’ve worked at the same job, but I love that we still get together all the time! In fact, I have a happy hour this week with Jojo and a couple of the other gals we used to work with, and I can’t wait to see them! But anyway, back to Saturday.

Jojo and her boyfriend Jadd just bought a row home in Southeast, so I had to check it out! Jojo and Jadd have a sweet pup named Tilly, and I brought Jack with me so they could have a play date with Jadd while we ladies went to yoga. Jadd said they had a blast together, like always. 🙂

Then it was time to walk over to yoga, which was an outdoor class with Be Here Now Yoga at Lincoln Park!

We both signed up for the class via ClassPass (<–affiliate link for $40 off) but it was also donation-based, so you could drop into the class and pay the instructor however much you wanted. The class wasn’t our favorite – it was a little slow-going and had lots of stretching and calming breathing – but it was nice and relaxing! Plus being outside on such a pretty summer morning was glorious.

After yoga, Jojo and I walked over to Mia’s Coffehouse for some breakfast! We both got iced coffee and beef barbacoa bowls, and everything was delicious. We both got full after eating less than half of our bowls though, so we took the rest home for our respective boys. (They were both quite happy about this, naturally.)

It was such a nice morning catching up with a good friend!

After saying goodbye to Jojo and Jadd, I spent the rest of the afternoon doing laundry and straightening up around the house (plus sneaking in an episode of Grey’s Anatomy) while Fabio was out golfing with Jason. Once they were done, Fabio and I got cleaned up and drove to Rockville for our third housewarming event of the weekend: a dinner at my stepsister Maggie’s and her boyfriend Nick’s new apartment!

Their place was also super cute, and they welcomed us with margaritas. I’m pretty sure all the best dinner parties start with margs. 🙂

While we sipped our drinks, we munched on chips and homemade guacamole and watched the Yankee/Red Sox game.

In case you’re wondering, Fabio was only half listening to any of our conversations and he almost spilled my drink a few times when the Yankees scored and he jumped up in the air. Insert eye-roll emoji.

Anyway, eventually it was time to eat and we enjoyed a delicious beef taco bar!

Tacos for the win! I wound up having one soft flour taco, one soft corn taco, and one hard-shell taco. De-lish.

For dessert, we had mango and prickly pear sorbet with fresh strawberries. Hello, summer!

After dinner we walked around Maggie and Nick’s neighborhood a bit, and even stopped for drinks at a bar near them. It was a really fun night, and we didn’t get home until after midnight. We were pooped!

On Sunday morning, we decided to drive over to my brother and sister-in-law’s house (it still sounds super weird to say that, BTW). Diane is expecting her baby any day now, and unfortunately last weekend Alex had to have surgery on his foot due to an older injury that was getting worse and worse. The poor things definitely needed our help – Diane can’t bend over at all and Alex was hobbling around on my old peg-leg (my dad was nice enough to bring it by for them earlier on). They were in rough shape!

To help them out, we stopped by the grocery store to pick up some essentials and then spent a while helping them get the nursery ready. That baby is going to be here before we know it!

Hey, no photo-bombing peg-legs allowed! 🙂

That’s better. 🙂

And now it’s Sunday night as I am typing this up, and we are looking forward to watching the new season of Game of Thrones in a little bit! Except it’s been so long since last season that I sort of forget what was happening…I guess it’s time to go watch some of last season’s episodes to remind myself. 🙂

I hope you all have a lovely Monday!

Question(s) of the day: Do you watch Game of Thrones? What’s your favorite kind of taco?

Fish tacos – either fried or fresh – with cole slaw are my absolute favorite!!

Psst…Happy birthday to my good friends Sam and Claire!!

Hooray, hooray – It’s Friday! Thank goodness. I for one am ready for this long weekend. Plus this means it’s officially one week after my surgery, which hopefully means I just have about three more to go before I can walk again. #GimpLife

As usual, here’s a look at some of the things I’ve been loving this week. Most of them are surgery related because that’s my life right now. Sorry!

Favorite Sip

For Fabio’s birthday I gave him a goodie bag filled with some of his favorite little treats as part of his birthday present. One item I put in his gift bag was Sleepytime tea, which I had heard a lot about but never tried before. Although Fabio is still too stubborn to really embrace the tea, I’ve been loving it this week in my favorite mug that Jess got me for Christmas.

The evenings are when my foot is most painful – probably because I have nothing to keep my mind off the pain – and I have found that this tea really calms me down and gets me ready for bed. I’m loving it!

Favorite Deliveries

This week I got two awesome deliveries. First, on Monday an edible arrangement showed up at my door from my work. The people I work with are the BEST!

Not only are they letting me work from home while I’m on crutches, but my coworkers have been sending me texts and emails all week to check on my progress. This edible arrangement was just the icing on the cake (the chocolate on the fruit?). Yum.

Then on Wednesday I got this awesome delivery from Catrina – a 10 lb. kettlebell! The note said to use the kettlebell for strengthening my arms and abs. She knows me so well.

What a great gift!

Honestly these two deliveries on top of all the flowers, cards, and snacks I got over the weekend have just shown me how truly blessed I am. I’m so lucky to have so many caring people in my life.

Favorite Buddy

Jack is just the best little companion. He has been keeping me company all week, and has been doing a great job of keeping me happy. He definitely knows I’m hurt – he has been sniffing my foot and gently licking my ankle and other areas near the bandage – but he’s been very gentle and is careful not to hurt me. How do dogs know these things??

Favorite Gadgets for Injuries

After my surgery my dad dropped off a bunch of gadgets to help me recover, but there have been two that stand out to me as the most effective. First, I just have to proclaim my love (once again) for the iWalk 2.0 Hands-free crutch.

This thing is truly amazing, and allows me to walk around using both hands, almost as if I wasn’t injured. Of course you do have to be super careful to make sure you don’t trip, slip, or fall, but regular crutches have that hazard too. It’s pretty expensive, but if you know you’re going to be on crutches for a while due to a lower leg injury, I think this is 100% worth it. I call the iWalk my “peg leg” and I don’t know what I’d do without it.

My other favorite gadget is my shower chair! My dad got me this too, and although I’m not sure where he bought it, it looks like they’re available from a bunch of places online.

This chair allows me to sit in the shower with my leg outside of the tub (since it can’t get wet) and that way I don’t have to worry about standing dangerously on one leg in the shower. Win! This thing is amazing.

Favorite Problem Solver

You guys – my mom is the queen of solving problems this week. So remember that beautiful Lilly dress I got for our trip to Jamaica?

Well wouldn’t you know it – it got totally ruined in my suitcase on the way home. I won’t go too much into the details, but it had something to do with some MALE person asking me to put a bottle of Jamaican rum in some FEMALE person’s suitcase (his was too heavy, naturally) despite some FEMALE warning him that the bottle would probably break and ruin clothes in said FEMALE person’s suitcase. Mmmhmm. He told me a plastic bag would solve the problem but – unfortunately – he was wrong and two of my dresses were ruined. 🙁 I took them to the dry cleaner, but no dice.

My mom felt really bad for me since she had just bought me this dress, so she bought me a replacement one. ISN’T SHE THE BEST?!

Then she came over on Monday to take care of me, and baked me a delicious batch of brownies. Unfortunately Jack ATE ALL THE BROWNIES while we were at my doctor’s appointment (I’m pretty sure I asked that MALE person to put them away carefully…hello I’m on crutches or I’d do it myself) so my mom made me a second batch when we got home from the doctor. Phew.

I’m tellin’ ya’, my mom is probably the best problem solver there is. THANKS MOM!!

Alright guys, that’s all I have for you today. Happy Friday!

Question of the day: What fun weekend plans do you have?

I for one am looking forward to getting out of this house!! Yep, I  guess I’m starting to get just a little stir-crazy.

Well, my foot no longer looks like this!IMG_8856

Yep, on Friday morning I underwent surgery on my right foot to remove the bunion that’s been causing me serious pain for quite a while now. Thank you all so much for your well-wishes, by the way! You guys are the best! 🙂

The surgery itself went really well. I arrived at the surgery center right on time without any problems, and was so happy to have Fabio, my mom, and my dad there to support me. Everything with the surgery went even better than expected, and the doctor was really happy with the outcome. He even gave me this picture of my foot, which is now complete with its own set of hardware.

Look at all those screws! Airport security lines will never be the same. Wahh!

After the surgery I was on cloud nine – literally I felt great – but I knew that feeling wouldn’t last long. Sure enough, after a couple of hours the numbing medication started to wear off and I was in a lot of pain. Luckily I was surrounded by the best helpers in the world, who catered to my every need.

Fabio has been the absolute BEST, and has been helping me with anything and everything I need without complaint. Jack has been great too, and has been carefully side-stepping my leg while snuggling me at the same time. Pretty much every night since the surgery he has slept right next to me (sometimes on me) and has been giving me lots of love. My boys are the best!

Getting around hasn’t been too bad – the surgery center gave me a set of regular crutches, and my dad also got me a roller scooter (Fabio is using it below) and the iWalk hands-free crutch, which is really awesome and sort of like a peg leg (I’m wearing it below). I have been trying to keep my foot elevated for the most part, but I know later in the week these two gadgets will really come in handy! I’m especially impressed with the iWalk, and I can’t wait to use it more throughout my recovery.

As I mentioned, the pain got really bad a few hours after the surgery, and continued throughout the first 48 hours. The second night was absolutely horrible, and I made the mistake of taking my pain medication (I’m on Vicodin) in the middle of the night on an empty stomach. This caused me to spend the rest of the night vomiting, and I couldn’t even make it to the toilet because I can’t kneel on the floor. Great. Poor Fabio was up all night changing the bag in the trash can, and I can’t thank him enough. What a trooper. Thankfully I’m feeling loads better today.

One thing that also really helped with the pain was visitors! On Saturday and Sunday we had tons of visitors, all of whom dropped by with various snacks and goodies. 🙂

First, my mom gave us some lasagna and pulled pork on Friday, which was definitely appreciated. Yum yum yum.

Then on Saturday my dad came over with my stepmom and sister and brought me bagels, chicken, movies, a shower chair (necessary) and more. Later in the day, our friends Claire and Kevin came by with some snacks and wine (for once I’m off my meds) and then Bianca came over for dinner with pizza and ice cream. Awesome!

On Sunday my friend Sam came over around lunchtime with a whole care package of goodies from my home friends, and then Megan and JR came over for dinner with beef stew and banana bread for dessert. Everything was delicious, and I felt so lucky to have so many friends around to support me.

I also got a ton of cards, flowers, and balloons, and I pretty much just felt like the luckiest girl alive.

Having so many friends stop by has been a great distraction, and when people are here I barely even notice the pain. They’re the best!

Today I’m feeling much better, and I think the worst is now behind me. Woohoo!

Tomorrow I have a follow-up appointment with my doctor, and I’m excited to see how things are healing. I’ll keep you posted!

Question of the day: What makes you feel better when you’re feeling under the weather?
