Hi friends! How was your weekend? Ours was a good mix of fun and relaxing, which is always the best way to spend a weekend if you ask me! Here’s a peek at what we were up to.

On Friday night, Fabio and I went on a boat cruise hosted by his work. (Yes, that makes two Friday nights in a row with boat cruises…who are we??)

This time our boat left from the Navy Yard and we cruised south along the Potomac, as opposed to last week when we left from Georgetown and cruised north. I guess now we’ve seen the whole river by boat! 🙂

It was a lovely night to be out on the water, and we had fun eating, drinking, and dancing with Fabio’s coworkers.

After the boat ride, we hopped into an uber and headed over to Policy on U Street with a few of Fabio’s coworkers. Once there, we continued to dance the night away. I hadn’t been to Policy in ages, and it was a lot of fun to be back!

Saturday morning began with a quick run with Jack (I always feel like a little sweat session helps get alcohol out of my system faster – ha!) and then around 12:30 we got ready for two special guests to arrive, my stepsister Maggie and her boyfriend, Nick!

Before they got there, Fabio and I tag-teamed cleaning up the house and then he offered to run out to the store to pick up some snacks while I finished getting ready. Our neighbor also happened to be selling some figs from his fig tree, so when Maggie and Nick arrived we all snacked on champagne, cheese, figs, prosciutto, and cantaloupe!

Happy Saturday indeed! 🙂

A little while after our snack session, we all hopped in an uber that would take us to a BBQ hosted by our family friends Dan and Alanna. Even though we had just eaten cheese and snacks, I wasted no time filling up on amazing BBQ food.

I hadn’t eaten breakfast on Saturday, so I basically considered our cheese course breakfast and the BBQ lunch. Haha! Everything was delicious, especially the two salads made by Alanna. I’ll have to get those recipes!

Before long, it was time for our group to pack everything up and walk over to the Nationals game! Maggie had never been to a Nats game before, so we briefly split up from Dan, Alanna, and the rest of their friends so we could show her the Bullpen.

It was packed, as usual! Must have been because of the good weather, live music, and beer. 🙂

I love this place and was so glad Maggie and Nick got to see it!

Before long, it was time to head into the stadium!

Our seats were fairly high up, but we still had a good view of the field.

Thanks so much to Dan to treating us all to these seats!!! (He’s a season ticket holder and was able to cash in some rewards points so everyone could go together.)

At the end of the fifth inning, we left our seats to meet up with our good friends Courtney and Kevin who also happened to be at the game. We shared a beer with them and enjoyed catching up! Before we knew it, the 8th inning had arrived so we all scurried back to our seats to watch the rest of the game.

My handsome husband!

I think I’ve mentioned that Fabio used to be a bat boy for the Yankees and the Mets, and when we first started dating he took me to a bunch of Mets games so I could watch him down on the field. Because of him I also got to visit the club house and dugout – and go onto the field – after a game. Because of this, I was having mixed emotions about which team to root for, Nats or Mets, but in the end I was happy when the Nats pulled off a win. 🙂

It was such a fun day with fun people, and after a quick dinner at Nando’s and saying goodbye to Nick and Maggie, I fell into bed exhausted at 10:00 p.m. Fabio wound up watching the big fight at a friend’s house on Pay Per View, but I was happy to stay home in my PJs and catch up on sleep instead. 🙂

Sunday was a very relaxing and lazy day – we slept in, watched a few episodes of Shameless, and just kind of hung out around the house which was glorious.

Eventually I did some meal planning and hit up the grocery store, but other than that it was quite a relaxing day!

Now I’m just waiting for Fabio’s cousin and her boyfriend to come over a little later for the Game of Thrones finale! I can’t wait to see what happens but am bummed this season is already almost over. Wah!!

Question of the day: Did you watch the finale? What did you think?

Hi friends! Happy hump day. 🙂 It’s been a while since I’ve checked in with a What I Ate Wednesday post, and I also want to tell you about a fun baseball game I went to last night, so let’s get to it! I’m linking up with Jenn and Arman for WIAW. Thanks for hosting guys!

Here’s a look at my Monday!

As usual, my Monday morning began with a workout! I can’t remember if I mentioned this or not, but Fabio has decided to join ClassPass! He’s not sure how long he’s going to stick with it, but after seeing how much I love it he decided to sign up to get in better shape before our trip to Jamaica next week. It’s been so fun having him come with me to various classes like spin and Urban Athletic Club, and on Monday I dragged him to his first yoga class!

We wound up going to CorePower Yoga’s Sculpt class, which has definitely become one of my favorites in the last couple of months. The class is hot (but not as hot as bikram) and incorporates weights and a bit of cardio to really get your heart rate up. At the end of class Fabio and I were both sweaty messes, and he said, “So this is what you feel like every morning?” Haha. Yep! 😀

Breakfast #1

When we got home we both enjoyed a glass of fresh juice made with beets, carrots, celery, an apple, kale, cucumber and ginger.

It was another great batch – sweet but not too sweet!

Breakfast #2

Once I showered, I dug into my second breakfast: a bowl of Kellogg’s Crispix cereal (not my favorite but we have a big box to use up) with 1% milk, a banana, and slivered almonds.

A while back I posted about how I was thinking of switching from skim milk to a more full-fat version of milk, and a bunch of you agreed that I should. Thanks for your input! I also talked with my favorite registered dietician friend, Anne, who told me that in addition to ditching the skim milk I should also add some healthy fats to my breakfast, like slivered almonds. I wound up picking up a bunch from the bulk bins at Whole Foods, and so far I’ve been loving this addition to my cereal! Yum! Thanks, Anne!

A few hours later I dug into my lunch which included a gigantic salad made with mixed greens, carrots, Craisins, feta, quinoa, and turkey. I actually forgot to bring dressing on Monday, so I wound up using some fat free/calorie free chipotle ranch that I found in the fridge at work (my office is mostly women, and we have a bunch of communal salad dressings in our fridge). I’m sure there were a bunch of preservatives/weird chemicals in this dressing, but it was pretty tasty and it worked in a pinch!

To be honest these salads really keep me full (I think it’s the quinoa) but at around 4:00 I was craving a little something sweet so I dug into an apple I brought. I’ve said this before and I’ll say it again: having an apple slicer in my desk drawer is the best thing ever!

Fabio and I wound up running a bunch of errands on Monday to get ready for our upcoming trip (including getting his groomsman’s suit and my bridesmaid’s dress tailored for the wedding – eek!) so by the time we returned home at around 7:30 we were more than ready to eat! I wound up making this peanut crusted salmon from Better Homes & Gardens, and it was a winner!

The recipe was really easy to pull together, and along with the salmon I cooked up some plain quinoa and steamed broccoli.

It was delicious!

After dinner Fabio and I each had a cake pop from Sunday’s Lamb Jam DC (I know – I sill owe you guys details!).

How cute it is this?! While we munched on our delicious cake pops, we watched Sunday’s episode of Game of Thrones that we had missed. Delicious cake pop + Game of Thrones = awesome Monday night!

Yankees vs. Nationals

While we are catching up, I also want to tell you about the fun baseball game I went to last night! We wound up joining our friends Lauren and Alex for the Yankees vs. Nationals baseball game!

We started off the evening at the Bullpen, a really fun outdoor bar where we all like to hang out before the game. (Did they rename it to Fairgrounds?) It was packed, but it was a gorgeous evening for a baseball game so we didn’t mind.

Of course we had to stop by the pitching booth where you pitch a baseball at a giant mat and they tell you how fast you threw it (Fabio makes us stop here every time, haha).

He wound up throwing around 72 miles per hour, which is pretty fast! Go Fabio! 🙂

Then it was game time! We had pretty good seats and it was a beautiful night to be outside, so I was quite the happy camper.

Truthfully I had a hard time deciding who to cheer for! The Nationals are a relatively new team, so growing up in this area I didn’t have a home team to root for (except the Orioles, but Baltimore teams are not my thing). Then in college I met Fabio, who had season tickets to the Yankees and took me to a ton of games in New York (I actually knew the 2009 Yankee lineup pretty well!). Now that we’re in DC, he obviously doesn’t have season tickets to Yankee games anymore, and we now attend a lot more Nationals games. The Nationals are my home team, but I liked the Yankees first! What to do?! I wound up clapping/cheering for both teams which I’m pretty sure annoyed just about everyone else around me, but I didn’t mind. Whatever works, right? I also wore a blue and white dress (with no red), so show my support for both teams. 🙂

The Nationals wound up winning with a home run in the 11th inning, which I was happy about because at that point is was way past my bedtime. Phew!

What a fun night though!

Question of the day:  Do you like baseball? If so, what team do you root for?

Hello, hello! Boy do I have a lot to share with you guys today. I had a really fun weekend that was absolutely jam-packed, so let’s jump right into today’s recap!

On Friday night I met my friends Britt and Jess at Hank’s Oyster Bar for a little ladies’ dinner! (Chicks #1)

I had never been to Hank’s before, even though I’ve heard plenty of people talk about it over the years. Unfortunately Fabio is allergic to shell fish, so I knew an oyster bar would never be a place he’d suggest going. That made it a perfect spot for an evening with the girls!

We ordered six raw oysters to share as an appetizer, and my friends had a good laugh at my inexperience with eating them. I had only ever had raw oysters once or twice, so I was a total rookie! Everyone always says you should swallow the oysters down like a shot, so I didn’t know that you can chew them a little. It was pretty funny and even though I barely tasted oyster #1 because I swallowed it so fast, I enjoyed #2 a little more 🙂 Ha!

For my entree I chose the softshell crab with tomato, pesto, and feta cheese which was delicious. I love softshells and will always order them when they’re on the menu!

I got home from dinner at around 11:00 pm and then read my book in bed for a while before eventually giving in to sleep. It was a nice evening!

On Saturday morning I had workout plans with Britt at noon, so I made a two-ingredient pancake with a little peanut butter on top for myself beforehand. I was feeling extra hungry so I used two eggs instead of one, and it got the job done.

After breakfast it was time for our workout! I met up with Britt at the metro, and from there we headed over to Ballston for a “Sweat for Survival” CrossFit class benefiting the American Cancer Society.

One of my former coworkers set up the event and invited me on Facebook a couple weeks ago, and ever since I heard all about CrossFit from Catrina I have been wanting to try it out. It was a free class with a suggested donation of $15 benefiting the American Cancer Society, which I thought was perfect. Sweat for a good cause? Count me in.

The class itself was fantastic! It was an introductory level class that was customizable to your fitness level.

We started out with a brief 400 meter run followed by some plyometric moves as our warm up. Then we spent some time going over squats and the coaches came around and corrected everyone’s form. After we practiced our squat form, the coaches explained the workout of the day (WOD). The WOD was as many reps as possible (AMRAP) of wall balls, box jumps, and burpees.

We spent one minute on each exercise and then rested for one minute in between, which we repeated three times. We were encouraged to count each rep (so each wall ball, each box jump, each burpee) continuously throughout the workout. The goal was to get 200 reps, which no one in our class was able to do (though one guy got to 194 I believe). I got up to 161 which I was pretty proud of! I definitely hustled to try to get in as many reps as I could and I loved that I was competing against myself and the clock. It was a great workout and definitely made me want to go back! I’ll be keeping my eyes open for more CrossFit deals, that’s for sure.

After CrossFit I headed back toward home and picked up a salad from Corner Bakery on the way. Gotta refuel!

After lunch I quickly showered and then met up with a bunch of Bianca’s girl friends at the BullPen, the fun outdoor bar outside of the National’s ball park! (Chicks #2!)

Thank you, Fabio, for photobombing.

We debated buying tickets for the actual game, but we got there late and tickets were around $40. We decided instead it would be more fun to just hang out in the BullPen and listen to the live band, play cornhole, and drink cheaper beers 😉

Here I am with Britt, feeling a little sore after our morning CrossFit adventure.

Fabio also took advantage of the little pitching booth they had set up in the BullPen, which he does pretty much every time we go there. He used to play baseball in high school so he likes to check up on his throwing speed from time to time.

Go Fabs!!

It was a beautiful day and I had so much fun with my friends!

After the BullPen we all headed to Cantina Marina for dinner, and then went to Saint Ex to continue dancing the night away. It was so much fun!

Since I didn’t see my mom last weekend for Mother’s Day, Fabio and I went over to her house yesterday to enjoy a belated celebration! My aunt and uncle were also in town from NYC and Los Angeles (respectively) so we had a fun day with the family!

Chicks #3!

I gave my mom her Mother’s Day gift, which was a Lily Pulitzer serving tray. It matched what she was wearing perfectly and I think she really liked it!

She immediately put it to use by bringing out her delicious chips, salsa, and guacamole!

I also got to see the baby chicks! (Chicks #4!)

They are so cute right now and it’s going to be so funny to see how they change when they grow up to be real chickens! My mom is so excited that she’ll have fresh eggs every morning, and I can’t wait to take some back home with me when there are extra eggs.

SOOO adorable.

It was a wonderful day with my family!

Questions of the day: Are you a fan of baseball games, or do you just enjoy the atmosphere? Would you ever consider raising chickens?

I wasn’t planning to blog today (you guys should know by now that blogging 5 times a week is rare for me!) but I went to a Nationals game last night with a bunch of friends and just wanted to share the pictures with you all!

Although the weather was pretty chilly freezing, the company was wonderful and I had a fantastic time. Here are my photos!

Have a great weekend, everyone!

Question of the day: Do you like going to baseball games?

Hey there! Happy Monday!

If I’m being honest, waking up this morning Sucked. With a capital S.

Usually I can power through the mornings and put myself in a pretty good mood despite my sleepiness, but for whatever reason I was having a hard time today. The bags under my eyes were ginormous and I slept like a log. You know those times where you wake up stiff and you feel like you didn’t move at all during the night? And you have lines all over your body? Yeah, it was like that. I debated hitting the snooze button a few more times and coming into work late, but I thought of the mountain of work waiting for me and thought that would be a bad idea. Oh joy of joys. Let’s hope today goes by quickly.

On a different note, I have a guest post up today over on Kalee’s blog, Sorey Fitness. The post is all about realistically maintaining a healthy diet, so go check it out: Hopefully you can find some helpful tips there. I’m so grateful to Kalee for having me!

Alright well let’s jump into today’s weekend recap, since we have a lot to cover…

After work on Friday, Fabio and I had plans to hang out with our friend James and his new girlfriend, Caitlin. They wanted to try a bar called Wisdom, which they read about in the Washingtonian. It was featured in the paper for its unique signature cocktails, and it sounded like a really cute little spot. We met up with them around 9:30 and headed over to the bar.

It did not disappoint!

When we arrived we were surprised to see that the bar was relatively empty. I guess we are used to really packed and crowded bars with a ton of people our age, but this place had a more subdued atmosphere and we were actually able to sit at the bar (how shocking).

The bartender was a really charismatic and smart woman who knew everything there was to know about the variety of drinks they served. She gave us a little bit of background on all the drinks and we had a great time chatting with her. My favorite drink of the night was one called Peanut Butter and Jelly which tasted exactly like its name. It was so cool! I have no idea how they made it.

After spending a bit more time at Wisdom, we decided to switch gears a bit and go over to another bar called Brixton, where a bunch of our other friends were. It was really nice that we were able to go to both kinds of bars in one night – the quiet one where we could sit and chat, and one that was louder where we could dance with friends. Brixton was really cool and had a gigantic rooftop, so it was a lot of fun to be outside with friends 🙂

This is my friend Lauren, who was my roommate and sorority sister in college. We are lucky enough to work together at the same company now! She’s one of those great friends who will always be there for me.

And here I am with Fabio and Keith! Keith used to work with Fabio, and has become a great friend to us over the last couple of years.

Such a great night out with friends!

Saturday morning Fabio and I woke up around 9:30 and got ready for our long run of the week, six miles. It was really humid out, so I won’t pretend the run was a piece of cake. It was hard. Like, really hard. We had to stop two times to rest.

One of the times I spotted a pretty butterfly on the ground, and on a whim decided to try to get it to crawl onto my hand. Much to surprise, it worked! I got to hold the butterfly for about 30 seconds before it flew away (all the while yelling to Fabio, “Take a picture!”). Haha.

This is so typical of me to try to pick up some sort of little animal or bug haha I’m like a seven year old when it comes to that stuff.  I used to try to hand-feed the squirrels on my college campus and have been known to feed pigeons and random birds from time to time. It’s semi-embarrassing but oh well, what can you do. I’m an animal lover!

After our run Fabio and I went home, showered, and ran some errands. We knew we were going to be away from the house on Sunday so we decided to make Saturday our cleaning/grocery shopping day. It only semi-worked because we ran out of time and now we’re going to have to do a few more chores today after work 🙁 Oh well.

A little later in the afternoon we had plans to meet a large group of our friends for a National’s game! We hung out in the Bullpen beforehand, which is a fun outdoor bar with live music. They had a pitching booth where you could see the speed of your pitches, and Fabio and our friend Mark decided to try it out.

Here’s Mark…

And then it was Fabio’s turn! Fabio used to play baseball in high school (and obviously is a huge baseball fan) so he actually did pretty well. I think his speed was around 73 mph.

Look at him go! His speed must have been really good because a bunch of onlookers were “oohing” and “aahing” lol.

Here are the girls…me, Kristen, Lauren, and Megan. We’ve been great friends since college! Kristen was visiting from New York, so it was really great to see her. I’m feeling very spoiled at the moment though since I just got to see her last weekend too!

And here we are with the whole group!

It was so much fun having all of us together 🙂 It was also a gorgeous night for a baseball game. Check out that sky!!

Once we got into the stadium, Fabio called his dad and asked if he would treat us to Ben’s Chili Bowl (Fabio has his dad’s credit card in case of emergency). Fabio’s dad was kind enough to agree! He loves that place.

Fabio got a chili half smoke and I got a regular one with mustard. It was delicious!! (I don’t know how Fabio ate the chilli dog- it was so messy!!!)

Once the game ended we went back to the Bullpen for some more live music and beer. There was a great band and we all had fun dancing….even this little toddler.

He was quite popular.

After the Bullpen we went to Sign of the Whale, which is another bar in DC. It was another fun night!

On Sunday morning Fabio and I were supposed to run three miles but we wound up oversleeping and didn’t have time. Woops (blame it on the a-a-a-a-al-cohol).

Then we had plans to go to my grandparents’ house for the day!

My dad brought his black lab Max, so all three black labs were running around like crazy. They are so funny when they’re all together.

We bribed them with treats to get them to sit like this, lol.

The weather was kind of crappy (humid and cloudy) so instead of going out on the boat we decided to do some shopping at the outlets. I wound up getting a few new things and it was a nice way to spend the day 🙂

Afterwords we came back to the house, rested a bit, and then had a nice family dinner. This sight never gets old to me.

My grandparents are the luckiest people ever to live in such a pretty place. Then we drove home and passed out in bed from exhaustion. Phew!

Such a fun weekend!

Question of the day: What’s your favorite way to spend a summer weekend?
