On Saturday morning, Fabio and I drove over to his sister Diane’s house for her baby gender reveal party! We were told to wear pink or blue based on our guess, and since Fabio and I knew that most of the family was rooting for a boy, we decided to represent team pink. We even brought some pink champagne!

We arrived around 11:00 a.m. and immediately got to work getting ready for the party. While Diane and her husband Alex finished getting ready for the day, Fabio and I joined his dad and other sister, Karen, at the grocery store to get some last minute party decorations.

It was a packed car with the four of us and all the balloons and flowers, but luckily it was a short ride!

When we got back to Diane and Alex’s house, we saw that Alex’s sister Michelle had set up the rest of the party decorations. We were ready to go!

How cute are these mini strollers and baby rattles? Michelle did such a great job with everything!

Team girl!!

Before we got started on the baby gender festivities, we set up a quick Easter egg hunt for Fabio’s niece, Sofia. The Easter bunny (aka, Fabio) hid eggs all around the yard!

Then we unleashed Sofia on the backyard! She was able to find all the eggs fairly quickly, though she needed hints for some of the tougher ones. 😉

Then we switched roles and Sofia hid all the eggs for the adults to find! Diane, Alex, Karen, Karen’s husband Martin, Fabio, and I all ran around the yard like crazy looking for eggs.

So fun!!

Sofia is a good hider. 😉

After the Easter egg hunt, Alex’s parents arrived and it was time to eat! We had a delicious spread of Greek salad, cheese bread, pita, dips, spanakopita, mixed veggies, chicken kabobs, pesto pasta salad, and pirozhkis (Russian pastries filled with ground beef). I wound up trying a bit of everything, and it was all delicious!

We all finished eating quickly because that meant it was time to find out the gender of Diane and Alex’s baby!

Their doctor actually found out the sex of the baby a week before, but Diane and Alex didn’t want to know the results yet so they had their doctor put the results in a sealed envelope, which they gave to a bakery. That way we were all surprised when they cut into the cake! Ready??

It’s a boy!!

Yayyy!!! Everyone was so excited, especially since most of the family was hoping for a boy. 🙂

Congrats, Diane and Alex!

Sadly, team pink was wrong. Boo! Haha!

But of course, we are just so happy for Diane and Alex and wish them a healthy pregnancy and delivery!

The rest of the afternoon was spent in the sunshine! We sat around drinking wine (well, not Diane), dancing with Sofia, and playing games in the yard.

This face!! LOL.

So fun!

Once the sun went down, we headed inside for cheese and fruit. How cute is this little plate Diane assembled?

The boys watched the Capital’s hockey game downstairs, while the girls felt the baby kicking!

This was my first time every feeling a baby move inside the womb and it was incredible! A little strange – like there was a little alien in there – but so wonderfully amazing. 🙂

Sunday

On Sunday morning we were up bright and early to meet my family for church! Fabio’s dad and Diane joined us, so it was nice to have our two families together!

Then we headed to my mom’s house for an amazing Easter feast. My mom really outdid herself with the spread!

My only contribution was this little bunny that garnished the plate of smoked turkey. It’s made with half a canned pear, a maraschino cherry, two raisins, two slivered almonds, and cottage cheese. It’s one of our favorite Easter traditions!

We stayed at my mom’s house for a few hours before eventually returning home in the late afternoon. It was a busy weekend for sure!

Question of the day: Have you ever been to a baby gender reveal party? How did the mom/dad-to-be make the announcement?
